Nancy Pelosi: Un-American

Ah, Nancy Pelosi. If she didn't exist, the conservatives would have to invent her as the perfect distillation of liberal idiocy.

She has spoken out on the mosque issue
. And she goes beyond the platitudes of religious freedom that the President so fervently expressed on Friday evening. What she's really worried about is who is behind the opposition to the mosque.
Earlier Wednesday, Pelosi told San Francisco’s KCBS radio that “there is no question there is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some.”

“I join those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque being funded,” she said. “How is this being ginned up?”
She lives in such a cocoon of self-satisfaction that she can't imagine anyone disagreeing with a position that she takes unless there are some nefarious secret agents behind the scenes orchestrating everything. Remember how she thought the same sort of thing about the tea party movement - that it was just astroturf being directed by the Republicans.

She just can't imagine that she is on the bad side of issues that the majority of Americans think quite differently than she does. Forget the totally American idea of debate and disagreement over public issues. Whom does the Speaker of the House want to investigate - the families of the victims? Remember back in the golden days when dissent was the highest form of patriotism or something? Dissent got to be a whole less patriotic now when people disagree with Queen Nancy.

Somehow those evil puppeteers that Nancy Pelosi is worried about even got 63% of New Yorkers to oppose the building of the mosque even though 64% of them acknowledge the Constitutional right of the developers to go ahead and build it. Imagine that - once can recognize the Constitutional issue involved and still not want it built.

That must be some powerful conspiracy. And it's so vast that it has even swept in Harry Reid this time! Those dastardly Republicans! How do they accomplish their villainy?

Ed Morrissey is, of course, having a lot of fun with Pelosi's approach to freedom of speech.
Of course! What better way to defend the First Amendment freedom of religion than to have the Speaker of the House ask the federal government investigate those exercising their First Amendment right to free speech?
And this isn't a freedom of religion issue because most opponents of the mosque aren't talking about government action to stop the mosque but are calling on the imam to demonstrate that he is truly about cross-cultural understanding by building his mosque somewhere else. But those behind the planned Islamic Center won't even rule out taking money from Saudi Arabia or Iran to fund their project. Yup, that will sure build cross-cultural understanding. It seems that all the understanding is supposed to be by us, not by his organization.

Barack Obama's inept handling of his statement guaranteed that discussion of the mosque question would take up all the weekend and go into Monday. Reid's statement calling for the mosque to be built somewhere else guaranteed that every politician running for office will be asked for his or her opinion on this thus generating more stories. And now Pelosi's call for investigating people who disagree with her position will carry this into another day. The Democrats are all so twisted up on this that liberals like Maureen Dowd, Peter Beinart, and Eugene Robinson are even calling for W to come to Obama's rescue because, apparently, he's much better than Obama at explaining the need for tolerance of Islam. Who'd have thought that day would arrive just 18 months after Bush left office?

Wow! This must be some serious Republican dark magic to get these Democrats to so play into his evil plots. It must be some of that same evil magic that got the Democrats to force through Congress with shady maneuvers and poorly written language a health care bill that the majority of the American people still oppose. Who knows where next the dark wizards of the GOP will strike?

Why does everyone feel compelled to say that the Muslim cleric has a Constitutional right to build the mosque? I can't build a church on my property. Farmers can't even farm their own land, if the govt decides that mud is evidence of a wetland. Govt stops people from building what they want to build (or doing what they want with their land) for all kinds of reasons.

American liberals in the 60s were more Trotskyite than Stalinst. Now, it is exactly the opposite. Goldberg's thesis about "Liberal Fascism" is proven once again. They just can't help themselves.
