One way to attack a state's deficit

Here's a little windfall for Massachusetts. After a week of embarrassment over his maneuvering to avoid paying taxes on his yacht, Senator Kerry has agreed to pay the taxes that he would have had to pay if he'd been docking his yacht in Massachusetts instead of Rhode Island. So the state is going to get a half a million dollars.

Now if other states can find out ways that their local politicians are avoiding any taxes, they can embarrass them and get a bit of a bonus in these days of sparse revenues. Though we can't count on other politicians to both as rich, arrogant, and hypocritical as John Kerry.

When you've got multimillions - OOPS!, your wife's got multimillions - I guess it's easy to avoid a possible premature end to your political career. Kerry's opponents would never have allowed this to sink, and he may have gone down with the yacht. Even in Taxachusetts.

Take a page from Obamarama's book, Mr. Heinz: blame it on the Swifties.

Can't count on it, but it is the way to bet.
