Cruising the Web

Ed Morrissey reports that the much-touted stimulus package saved about 10% of what the Joe Biden and Obama administration claimed it did. As Morrissey writes, "Someone is messing with Joe Biden!"

It turns out that that New Jersey special ed teacher who complained to Chris Christie that she should be earning $83,000 if she were paid $3.00 an hour for the 30 children in her class is actually earning...$86,389! So I'm sure that the citizens of New Jersey will be fully sympathetic that this woman had to endure such an onerous pay freeze.

Michael Barone notes some ominous poll results for Democrats this year.

Mary Katharine Ham has some fun with the "troubling trend" represented by President Obama's call for sending 1200 National Guardsmen to the Mexican border. Does this mean that Obama is a fascist like Governor Brewer of Arizona? It's all so confusing.

Keith Hennessey explains why the Democrats' new supposed stimulus bill should really be called "The Hypocrisy Act of 2010." First of all, it increases the deficit by $134 billion while bypassing the Democrats' supposed commitment to pay-as-you-go budgeting. It includes a temporary $63 billion "doctor's fix" but leaves the whole problem unsolved after 2011 so forget all those estimates of how much ObamaCare will cost. They're just going to put these costs into emergency measures year after year and they knew that when they trumpeted how ObamaCare would cost. Read the rest of his post.

Perhaps these reasons are why some Democrats are balking at voting for the new stimulus bill.

Noemie Emery writes on
how often Obama seems to be criticizing democracies.

This will build confidence. The Homeland Security department is warning Houston authorities that a Somali terrorist may be trying or has tried to cross the border from Mexico into Texas.

A new study reveals how bringing home the bacon harms the economy back home.

The state of New York is almost out of cash. And the legislature can't agree on a budget to deal with the $9.2 billion shortfall for this year.

The President's internal polling on Jews must be really awful - now he's invited Prime Minister Netanyahu back for another meeting with Obama before Obama rolls out the metaphorical red carpet for Mahmoud Abbas. I wonder if they'll allow photographers in this time or shunt Netanyahu off to another room while the President goes in to eat.

In regards to sending in the National Guard it will probably be wise to wait and see who they are protecting?

The question about a US President "sending" National Guard personnel to the border is confused. The President may need to sign off on the use of National Guard troops on a federal mission, he certainly does when they are deployed outside our borders, but the governors control the National Guard elements within their states. The governors of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas need to deploy their Guard units and regain control of their borders now. This President and his predecessors have abandoned their responsibility for protecting Americans and American sovereignty when it comes to the illegal alien question and our porous borders. It is time for governors to act.
