Lindsay Graham prides himself on his ability to reach across the aisle and make deals with the Democrats. He envisions himself as a southern-fried version of John McCain. So he's trying now to recreate his glory days from the Gang of 14 to create a group that would vow not to use reconciliation to pass health care. In those days he was able to find seven Democratic senators who were willing to reach a compromise to stop the Republicans from using the so-called nuclear option to force Bush's Senate nominations to the floor and avoid a filibuster.
But now, he's finding out that his former friends don't want to play in the sandbox with him anymore. Stopping a Republican nuclear option was fine, but stopping a Democratic nuclear option - not so much.
