After Politico published
Joe Klein's remarkably insulting comment about Charles Krauthammer, Klein was slammed throughout the conservative blogosphere for saying that being confined to a wheelchair had caused Krauthammer to lack nuance. So Klein has issued
a rather back-handed retraction saying that Krauthammer is still a bellicose, arrogant neocon, but, hey, Joe Klein didn't mean to offend anyone who is disabled. Classy.

"Klein" means "small" in German.
The Left dislikes Krauthammer more than merely because he's defended some Bush decisions. He's also a former Democrat (campaigned for Scoop Jackson, worked in the Carter administration and as a speech writer for Mondale). Additionally, he is supportive of Israel and military action against Iran, if necessary (notice Klein's repetitive usage of the term "neo-con," a favorite leftist slur against Jews who supported military actions in the Middle East. The Left has found it can get away with trashing "neo-cons" when it would never get away with trashing "Jews.").
But mainly, Klein throws sticks and stones, because he knows Krauthammer's effective. By throwing a few sticks into the chair's wheels, Klein thinks it might slow down a bit. He's tired of running trying to catch up with Krauthammer.
Bachbone,
"He's tired of running trying to catch up with Krauthammer".
Perfect.
