Well, now Biden has gone and done it again - said something dumb that causes problems for the Obama administration. This week he asserted the need for the administration to tell the Iraqi government what it should be doing.
"I think our administration is going to have to be very deeply involved" in some of the more contentious issues in Iraqi politics, the stumble-tongued veep said this week.He seems to have ignored the successful elections that the Iraqis just held. And this guy whose wife says was considered for Secretary of State doesn't seem to know that sovereign countries don't take kindly to another country saying that it will have to force them to deal with issues. Perhaps it's true. Obviously, with our forces still in Iraq protecting that very sovereignty, we will have leverage in internal issues. But you don't come out and say that in public and humiliate the leaders of Iraq from whose country you have committed to pulling out because you are saying that they can handle things on their own without our forces there.
"We are going to have to get in there and be much more aggressive in forcing them to deal with these issues."
Prime Minister Maliki didn't take kindly to Biden's bumbling comments.
And while serious issues remain, Iraq is strong enough now that it doesn't take kindly to being "forced" to do anything.Perhaps Maliki remembers that Biden's much touted proposal for Iraq was to divide it up into three separate ethnic divisions because Biden was positive that there was no way that Iraq could work successfully as a democracy. Maliki knows better than to take advice from Biden. Obama is probably learning the same thing.
Maliki made that clear enough, slapping Biden's comments as "out of date" during a state visit from French President Nicholas Sarkozy.
