When birth control is supposed to be a stimulus

There is so much to reject in the Democrats' $825 billion spending plan. Nancy Pelosi defended the $87 million for family planning services by saying that it would reduce costs. Somehow, she believes that having fewer children would reduce our nation's costs. The Wall Street Journal ridicules her Malthusian approach to improving the economy.
The notion that a larger population will produce a lower standard of living can be traced to the 18th-century economist Thomas Malthus. But during Malthus's own lifetime, his prediction was proved false, as he later acknowledged. Population and living standards rose simultaneously, and have continued to do so.

Ms. Pelosi's remarks ignore the importance of human capital, which is the ultimate resource. Fewer babies would move the U.S. in the demographic direction of Europe and Asia. On the Continent, birth rates already are effectively zero, and economists are predicting labor shortages in the years ahead. In Japan, where the population is aging very fast, workers are now encouraged to go home early to procreate. Japan is projected to lose 21% of its population by 2050.
Who does Pelosi think is going to be working to pay for all those benefits that we give the retired and elderly in America?

Of course, this was just something she said to pretend that this expense needed to be in the emergency spending package. Americans are eager to see government do something to address our economic problems and the Democrats want to take advantage of this feeling of emergency to pass a whole lot of other spending that they would want to pass even if the economy was humming along at a prosperous pace. They plan on rushing this all through without hearings or much debate. They wouldn't want to, as Rahm Emanuel said, "waste a crisis." That is why they're sending money to the states for contraceptives. That might be something worth doing, but there is no reason why it should be done outside the normal appropriations process. The only reason is that they want to get all their desired spending in under the umbrella of an "emergency stimulus."

The ridiculousness of her position is perhaps why the White House is backing away from her position on stimulating the economy through aid for contraception.

Did anyone think of Communist China when they heard first heard this .... kill girl babies .... only one baby per family?

Abort. Abort. Abort.

After killing off American babies, Pelosi will then decide that we need to give immediate amnesty to 12 million illegals because we have no workers paying into Social Security.

Pelosi is an extremist who spouts policy without thought.

This apparently has been stripped from the bill at Obama's behest, but it would have made great headlines: "PELOSI SUPPORTS SCROOGE-LIKE 'DECREASE THE SURPLUS POPULATION' AND SAVE MONEY BILL"

Maggie, Pelosi hasn't said one thing about "killing American babies". In fact, she advocates contraception, which REDUCES the number of abortions.

US Population isn't exactly in danger of drying up anytime soon:
the US Census Bureau expects our population to grow by 1/3 by 2050.

Allowing access to contraception is a good thing; in tough economic times, the last thing any family needs is children it can't afford and doesn't want. Somehow, extremist right-wingers think that forcing people to have unwanted babies will solve all the country's problems, I guess.

Apparently crooked ACORN will be able to get a hefty sum in this Democrat slush fund Stimulus bill.
I call that a payoff since the Democrats wrote the bill.

Why do you call ACORN "crooked", Skay?

The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now is the nation's largest community organization of low and moderate income families. They have done great work in getting the voices of the disadvantaged heard by politicians.

And they have taken great steps to avoid the problem of false voter registration. And, in spite of the hysteria from authoritarian regressives, there are very, very few cases of an invalid registration being used to cast an invalid vote. Can you find any significant cases, and tell us about them?

And all those people who plead guilty and Kansas City and Seattle were really Republican plants?

And of course Speaker Pelosi would prefer contraception but she knows that this and abortion are still unsettled theological question of the last fifty years alone. But maybe she just forgot to read the Catechism of the Catholic Church which is that. "Human life must be respected and protected absolutetly from the moment of conception..." and that "Direct abortion...is gravely contrary to moral law."

Debatable stuff like that!

All what people? Please provide the details Pat, even if SKay cannot.

Here's two and they only refer to guilty pleas and convictions, there are literally dozens of investigations concerning ACORN still going forward. But I suspect you know that and won't search the sites yourself.

Plus I've added the Rotten ACORN site that, even though an anti-ACORN site is still very accurate and non-partisan in listing examples of registration and voter fraud.

It is depressing to see that the same people who were adamant about making every vote count in Florida now turn a blind eye to one of the most damaging acts in a representative democracy, corrupting the voting process and the consequent loss of confidence in the validity of the vote.

Since widespread use of contraceptives was legalized in 1965 and the peak of abortion in the United Staes was eighteen years late, 1981, then arguing that this availability reduces abortions is a nonstarter. And with use of more contemporary RU-486 or rather mifepristone it appears that there are more babies being terminated now than even 1981while the rate seems to be declining because RU-486 is not recognized as causing abortions but rather in miscarriages.

It's comparable to looking at the murder rate in the US and deciding to not count any death related to wood. The rate goes down simply as a matter of definition but that guy who was impaled on a stake or beaten by a 2x4 is still just as dead.

Voting is Power-a group associated with ACORN operated in Louisiana. They registered dead people-the same people over and over-registered allready registered Republicans as Democrats(changed race and age) etc. The creative ways to dedeive were many.
The Democrats (who are in charge of Congress) are not about to invertigate one of their golden eggs seriously.

Also, fact that they are funneling taxpayer money to ACORN in this huge "stimulus Bill" is interesting.

"And they have taken great steps to avoid the problem of false voter registration."

Well-it has not worked so far.
