The Brits carry PC a step too far

Mark Steyn, in a cleverly titled post "Feliz 'dinejad!" links to this story of whom the British Channel 4 have chosen to give an alternative message to the Queen's Christmas message.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran will give a message of seasonal goodwill on Christmas Day as an alternative to the Queen's traditional broadcast, it has been announced.
Yup, that's right. The British are so overcome with the fear that the Queen, in her position as the head of the Anglican Church, will offend non-Christians that they seek out alternative speakers. And this year they could find no other Muslim leader in the entire world than the President of Iran. He's delivering a perfectly anodyne message, of course.
A spokesman for the broadcaster said the message is a spiritual one and includes the president's wishes for seasonal goodwill.

In it he congratulates followers of Jesus Christ and the people of Britain on the anniversary of Jesus's birth. He speaks about society's problems and crises being rooted in its rejection of the message of God's prophets including Jesus.

He also criticises the "indifference of some governments and powers towards the teachings of the divine prophets, especially those of Jesus Christ".
But let's not forget that Ahmadinejad has also called for the destruction of Israel, denied the Holocaust, is sponsoring terrorists who have attacked coalition forces (including British forces) in Iraq, and is carrying on a constant persecution of Iranian Baha'i. Yup, Channel 4 couldn't have picked a better representative of religious tolerance than that guy.

"The British are so overcome with the fear"

I highly doubt that. What an offensive and silly comment about our bravest and most steadfast ally.

Britain is actually acting out of strength - strength to listen to an alternative view. Can you imagine a weakling like Bush doing something like this? He spurned diplomatic offers from Iran in 2004, and now he is retreating from Iraq on a timetable, with the war not won.

Bill B has obviously given up the recognition for irony for the holidays. But from warmonger to weakling in the space of one year has to be a record even for the Left. "Retreating from Iraq..." must be like the US sending troops from Germany to Japan in the late summer of '45.

And since Pres. Maliki himself asked that the UN Resolution 1511 no be extended and the UN agreed means that as far as the Iraqi's and the UN is concerned the country is no longer a threat to international order and that the necessity for a large presence of foreign troops is not needed. Hardly either a retreat or a lost war.

Is that the current regressive meme that you're trying to plant? That the Iraq war has been won!?

Incredible. By the way, who surrendered to us? What did we win, for the huge cost of men and materiel?

Next you'll be telling me that the attack on Iraq was a good idea.

So what would you call the current situation in Iraq without saying something so funny that it might cause kidney damage from laughing so hard? And as usual you simply do not provide any counterargument to anything I posted or perhaps you have not heard of UN Resolution 1511 or even read the SOFA between the US and Iraq, we also have the similar agreements with Germany, South Korea, Japan and even East Timor. OMG, it's the left's worst nightmare we've invaded peaceful East Timor for the oil.

BBC4 regularly gets 850,000 viewers a night while a recent revival of Steptoe and Son (Sanford and Son in the US remake) got 1.4 million. Which is 1.2% of the available audience so I doubt if too many people will even see Ahmadinejad.

Though it is interesting that the head of a government that uses capitol punishment for homosexual acts fails to elicit much anger in the West while Pope Benedict who merely said that it was as important to save the world from the sin of homosexuality as it was to save a rain forest has caused a major melt down in some quarters.

I think the trees were insulted but they haven's issued a press release yet.

Biddle clearly has no idea what's going on in Iraq. I can picture him rereading reports from 2006 and taking that for the present situation. Low-information indeed.

Here's the fascinating meme: opening unilateral dialog with recalcitrant and malevolent enemies is a sign of strength. I'd LOL at this idea if it weren't so dangerous.

Look, equitus, it's very simple.

Has Bush signed on to the plan for us to retreat from Iraq on a timetable, yes or no?

Hint: yes he has, and the timetable was set by the Iraqis, not by us.

Follow up question: do you regard that as "winning"? We didn't even get to keep their oil.

BTW, the so-called Grand Bargain was offered with no signatures or letterhead. Also its rejection was by the Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage and Sec. Powell's Chief of Staff Lawrence Wilkerson. Neither exactly Bush acolytes nor neocons. Both recommended to Gen Powell to ignore the fax as to its dubious provenance and not take a chance in undermining the continuing negotiations by the EU and the investigation of Iran's intents by the IAEA.

But as usual Bill B has not let facts or even chronology interfere with his obsessions. Check the facts, count to ten then comment.
