The Wall Street Journal details what some of the Democratic leaders in the Congress hope to do. David Obey and Barney Frank want to cut Defense spending about 25%. Chuck Schumer wants to lend out more money to troubled industries. George Miller and Jim McDermott want to tax 401(k)'s/ John Conyers wants to prosecute Bush administration leaders for war crimes. Pete Stark wants a single payer health plan.
And then there are all the special interests like the unions, lawyers, and teachers who helped elect Democrats this year who will be out for their own provisions.
It's a depressing list of the wish lists of these Congressional Democrats.
I think that Obama is smart enough to realize that he has to avoid the mistakes of the Carter administration in losing battles with Congressional Democrats and the errors that Clinton made in his first two years in lurching too far to the left. He will have to rein in his fellow Democrats if he wants to have a successful presidency. He's facing an economy teetering on the edge of recession and a government already spending close to a trillion dollars to help out the credit market.
If he wants to stop the House and Senate Democrats, he can. He will have many in Congress personally indebted to him for their victories. They wouldn't have the majorities they do without his success and money. There won't be a supermajority
in the Senate to withstand a filibuster for some of these items especially if they didn't have Obama's support.
I hope that Obama has the fortitude and historical knowledge to withstand these Congressional barons. He hasn't shown such strength before, but he hasn't been on the top of the heap before. Before he faces the international test that Joe Biden talked about, he'll have to show he's strong enough to rein in his own party.

I look forward to watching him squirm.
I understand that in an interview yesterday the Kenyan president said that he EXPECTS Obama to help Kenya-not hopes-not thinks but expects. If you know the history of the last Kenyan election and Obama's involvement in it's outcome-while a US Senator, you can understand this statement.
Obama has promised everyone everything and everyone EXPECTS him to keep those promises.
He has promised the UN a large sume of our tax dollars. They EXPECT it.
He promised cuts in our defense systems and of course tax increases for many new creative ways to be sure people depend on government for everything.
His voting record is the most far left of anyone in the Senate.
His past tells us exactly who he is and the media covered for him - to achieve their goal.
He has a majority in the Senate and the house right now and he has promised citizenship to the illegals in this country. That is all about votes.
He intends to CHANGE this country and from his past history--I take him at his word.
As the the Marxist/socialist Saul Alinsky's son said after the Democrat convention--his dad would be proud.
What is the difference between Obama's views and the democratic views? It looks to me that they are one and the same.
I'll give the guy more chance than the Democrats gave GWB. I'm not going to condemn him before he takes office.
We shall see if his actions approach his rhetoric soon enough.
The elitist illuminati politicians all stick together, and now they have complete control of Congress and the country. The games will now begin.
