Democratic victimology

Jake Tapper notes a new meme among Democratic candidates. He notes that Hillary Clinton and John Edwards have been playing the "victim card." Hillary has been sending out releases complaining that Obama attacked her and calling attention to the whole cleavage nonsense. John Edwards is going around telling crowds about how "they" want to shut him up.

These guys need to toughen up. They're vying to be the most powerful person in the world. If they're sworn in on January 20, 2009, probably somewhere between 40-50% of the population will be hoping they fail. And a lot of people out there in the world who don't like the United States will transfer that feeling towards the new president. Hillary Clinton and John Edwards will have to live with a lot of derision and hatred if they become president, or even for the next year and a half leading up to the election. Playing the victim won't impress us much.

You know, whatever you might think of George W. Bush, his father, or Ronald Reagan, you have to admit that they took (are taking) a lot of guff during their presidencies. And the victim card wasn't in their deck of cards.
