In an apparently desperate search to make some news by throwing dirt on Fred Thompson, the LA Times comes up with the lamest hit job yet. Tina Daunt of the Times wonders whether Thompson would suffer some fallout from, horrors, having played a racist on a TV show almost 20 years ago. Perhaps people will remember his playing this part on Wiseguy or maybe someone will put the bits out on youtube and everyone will be just so confused and think that, yes, if he played a racist he must actually be a racist. You know, because the American people, or at least the readers of the LA Times, are truly that dumb.
And if no one will use Thompson's old part against him, well Tina Daunt is ready to help them out by reprinting some of the racist lines he used in that show. Just to be helpful to those Democrats compiling their oppo files on ol' Fred. And she lets them know how cheap the video is to buy on Amazon just in case someone wants to check him out. And, according to Daunt, he made a very convincing racist.
It's stupid of Republicans to think that Thompson having played leaders on film is now qualified to play one in real life. If that's his main qualification, forget about it. But it is even dumber to think that there would be some taint because 20 years ago he was an actor reciting racist dialogue. If playing a cyber assassin didn't hurt Arnold, I think Thompson can survive his Wiseguy days.
