Christopher Hitchens, in between writing
an anti-deistic manifesto, has written a
brief biography of Thomas Jefferson. And he has
an article in City Journal about our first war in the Middle East, the wars against the Tripolitan pirates who were attacking American ships and selling the sailors into slavery. It's a fascinating story that is often glossed over in history books.
