Michael Barone has a lot of fun drawing historical parallels between England's Charles II and William III and President Clinton and the present President Bush. The analogies are a bit strained, perhaps, but I always enjoy seeing someone have a little bit of fun with history. Barone is writing a book on the Glorious Revolution that brought England the reign of William and Mary and the rights of Parliament strengthened. England was firmly established as a constitutional monarchy. I guess, in Barone's extended analogy, this would make the 2000 election our version of the Glorious Revolution.
Okay, I think we've reached the point where the analogy breaks down. Read the rest of Barone's post which segues off a discussion of some poll results from Ohio that Barone thinks indicate that the Republicans are down in that state, but not as badly as some had thought.
