A depressing pattern

Saul Singer outlines a depressing history of the world, at least since the 20th century.
Here is my grand unified theory of the history of the universe:

-democracies show weakness;

-dictators are emboldened and attack;

-democracies respond slowly, insufficiently, or appease;

-dictators are further emboldened and attack harder;

-war;

-democracies win;

-start over again...
Depressing, isn't it? But rather accurate. And in light of the way Iran is behaving, about to be repeated.
