Southern and Western states are growing so much faster than the rest of the country that several are expected to grab House seats from the Northeast and Midwest when Congress is reapportioned in 2010.Even if the Supreme Court was to throw out the recent Texas redistricting in time for the 2006 midterm elections, chances are that there will simply be another redistricting done in 2011 that will be just as favorable to the GOP.
Demographers and political analysts project that Texas and Florida could each gain as many as three House seats. Ohio and New York could lose as many as two seats apiece.
The one thing that Democrats have to hope is that the people moving from the Northeast and Midwest to the South and the West are Democratic voters.
