John Stossel speaks up for the free market, specifically websites that allow people to buy cars without going to a dealership or buy a house without using a realtor. Realtors and car dealers are trying to get government to stop such internet sales. We bought a car that way and thought it was great to have it delivered to our door without having to leave the house. Of course, such innovations aren't great for realtors and car dealers. But, that's progress. The people who like having a realtor to lend expertise to buying a house can still use one. And those who like to visit the dealers and drive the cars and haggle with salesmen can still do that.

Think of all the people who used to work at gas stations and pump our gas before self-service became the norm. Sure, it was hard for those employees and many people didn't like the inconvenience of having to pump their own gas. But the cheaper prices convinced people to make the change. We don't have many blacksmiths or typewriter makers these days. That's progress. It helps a lot of people and hurts others. But we shouldn't use the government to legislate competition out of the way.
