It is disappointing that Laura Bush would go on national TV and say that it is possible that the opposition to Harriet Miers has a whiff of sexism in it. Come on. She must know that these same people fought for the confirmation of Priscilla Owen and Janice Rogers Brown. They would have cheered the nomination of one of those women or Edith Jones or one of the other women who were on the list of women considered.
Admittedly, a lot of people felt that a woman shouldn't be nominated just for the sake of nominating a woman. Just like Ruth Bader Ginsburg, we felt that it depended on which woman was nominated.
On the other hand, Dafydd has listened to the interview and thinks that Laura Bush was not really saying that Harriet Miers' critics were sexist.
