A story that, unfortunately, seems to be getting buried in the media is that Afghanistan is holding free elections today. People seem rather blase about that as if, so what else is new? My AP Government class just finished the chapter on voter participation and we discussed the reasons why people in the U.S. don't vote. Well, none of the reasons for Americans not voting included fear of being blown up by terrorists. These people are risking their lives as they defy the terrorists and head to the polls. Whatever you think about the war in Iraq, today is something that all Americans should feel proud that the United States had a role in making this day possible.
