It sounds like the results of the German elections will start resembling Florida, 2000. Check out Davids Medienkritik's blog for updates and helpful maps of the red/blue divide in Germany. With all the maneuvering that will proceed in the next few weeks to form a government, we will see one of the benefits of not having a parliamentary system. At least with our winner-take-all system for the electoral college, we don't see small parties like the Green Party or the Free Democrat Party being able to determine which party will govern the country through forming a coalition government. You might not like our two-party system, but better that one of the major parties should be chosen to govern than that small minor parties should hold the balence of power when the election does not determine a winner.
