Laer Pearce is contrasting the story of the sex scandal at the United Nations that is receiving little media coverage with the overkill of the Abu Ghraib story. Which story seems more newsworthy and shocking to you: UN peace workers raping African girls and women in refugee camps or suspected terrorists and Saddam Hussein's henchmen having humiliating pictures taken of them? Pearce is exactly right. The media seems to love to ignore UN scandals. It would tarnish that great multilateral peace myth out there. And it would detract from the focus on bashing administration policies unreservedly.
