This is NOT an Onion satire. The entire state of Vermont is now endangered because of that evil behemoth Walmart which is sabatoging the state by allowing people to buy things for cheaper prices.
Because of plans for several new Wal-Mart Supercenters across the state, the National Trust for Historic Preservation has placed the entire state of Vermont on its 2004 list of the most endangered historic places in the United States.

You see, Vermont is just too pretty to allow its inhabitants to buy cheaper products. They should just keep paying higher prices so that Vermont can preserve that which makes it appealing for tourists.
